2. SAVICA FALLS – KOCA TRIGLAVSKI JEZERO
The circum-navigation around Mount Triglav presents some of the most rugged and majestic mountain scenery in the Julian Alps and presents a challenging route over 5 days for the experienced hill walker with a good level of fitness. We begin our excursion after a short drive to Savica Falls from where we pick up our trail through a delightful beech forest that was made by soldiers of the 1st World War as a supply line mule trail. During this early stage of our trip you will see many remnants of stonework on our route dating back to the 1st World War as we make our way to the Komna Hut via a series of zig-zags up the mountainside. After a short stop for photographs at the Komna Hut – taking in the stunning view towards Bohinj Lake and after some light refreshments, we proceed along open ground to the beautiful Triglav Seven Lakes Valley. During this part of our trip we will pass several small alpine lakes before we reach our overnight stop at Koca Triglavski Jezero.
Duration: 6 hours
3. KOCA TRIGLAVSKI JEZERO – DOLIC HUT
After a comfortable stopover we set out following the trail along the Seven Lakes Valley, carved out by the Bohinj Glacier during the Ice Age, passing five glacial lakes as we make our way to the elevated position of the Dolic Hut (2151 metres). During this stage of our trip we cross broken and rocky ground which will test your navigation skills as we seek the red circular way markers for our route amongst rocky bouldery terrain. En route our trail passes Hribarice as we make our way to the hut perched below the mighty Kanjavec (2568 metres)
Duration: 5-6 hours
4. DOLIC HUT – DOM V STANICA
We set out after breakfast following an undulating route across broken and rough terrain heading to Lukna Pass where we take a short lunch stop. From this commanding position we also have superb views and photographic opportunities looking down towards Vrata Valley and to the surrounding peaks – Pihavec (2419 metres), Stenar (2501 metres) and Skrlatica (2740 metres). After lunch we set off initially heading towards Vrata Valley for a short distance with views of surrounding forest before picking up an exhilarating Via Ferrata ascent via the Prag route crossing Mount Triglav’s North Face on the way to our overnight stop at Dom Valentina Stanica (2332 metres).
Duration: 6-7 hours
5. DOM V STANICA – VODNIKOV DOM
Our penultimate day begins across open rocky ground as we head upwards towards Kredarica Hut (2505 metres) where we can make a brief stop to savour the commanding views from its lofty open position. From here we can see the Triglav massif, Dom Planika, Tosc and the pasturelands at Planina Velo Polje as we make our way to our overnight stop at the Vodnikov Dom (1817 metres).
Duration: 5 hours
6. VODNIKOV DOM – STARA FUZINA
Our final hiking day is less demanding and our trail follows a fairly easy descent route from the Vodnikov Dom to the delightful village of Stara Fusina in the upper Bohinj Valley. En route we will pass through the Voje Valley with beautiful pasturelands before descending to the dramatic Korita Mostnice Gorge located above Stara Fuzina. The route is fairly easy today as we progressively lose height following well made trails to our finish point. However, in the event of poor weather and/or accumulative fatigue from the previous four days, we can also shorten the final day heading to an alternative finish point through pine forest via Studorski Prevalto Rudno Polje.
Duration: 4-5 hours or 3 hours for the fore-shortened route.
7. SIGHTSEEING DAY
Havong completed the circumnavigation of Mount Triglav, the final day of your trip has been purposely designed as a leisurely sightseeing excursion with a morning visit to Bled Castle and Island followed by an afternoon trip to the nearby Vintgar Gorge. This will also give you a chance to relax after your exertions and take in some sights before you go back home. Steeped in history and over 1000 years old, Bled Castle will enchant you with its deep rooted history going back to medieval times and afterwards you will take a pletna boat (unique to Bled) to visit Bled Island and The Church of the Assumption. After a brief interlude for lunch we then depart for nearby Vintgar Gorge where you will be able to walk along forest trails offering superb views of this most dramatic natural feature carved out of limestone by the waters of the Radovna river. At the end of your holiday no doubt you will want to enjoy a final evening meal ahead of your departure and our guide will recommend the best places to eat either in Bled, Bohinj or one of the local villages.
- What’s included: Tickets to Bled Castle, Bled Island, Pletna boat, Vintgar Gorge and transfers
- Mandatory Personal equipment: Personal outdoor clothing, backpack and hiking boots
